Celebrating 40 Years

This year, CakedLA has partnered up with Center Theatre Group to reach their goal of 400 gifts to support 40 year of arts education. For 40 years, CTG has reached students, teachers and community members through programs such as the Young Audiences Program, which brings students to selected mainstage performances at CTG. Your donation today will allow CTG to continue developing new educational programs. In the coming year, your contribution will support exciting initiatives including:

The Student Advisory Committee – a unique program that offers participating high school students real-life job skills development, while also allowing CTG to engage with and hear directly from the next generation of theatre artists and audiences.

The Chase Theatre Educators Fellowship – which provides fellowships in support of professional development needs and artistic revitalization to five outstanding theatre teachers in Los Angeles County. This program is the only one of its kind in the country.

The Middle School Playwriting Program – a three-year residency with 10 local middle schools that works with students to improve and inspire their language and creative thinking skills. This program joins CTG Teaching Artists, middle school English teachers and local theatre companies as collaborative partners.

CAKEDLA ATTENDS HAPPY HOUR EVENT AT STUDIO CIE WELLNESS SPA

Eat cake pops, drink W.I.G. (Women’s International Group) wine and be merry at Lakewood, Calif.’s Studio Cie Wellness Spa was the theme for the spa‘s first-ever “Happy Hour” event that took place on April 22. Attendees were treated with complimentary mini treatments such as hand facials to chair and scalp massages.

Since the spa is all about promoting health and well-being, Toni Carner, certified massage therapist, gave attendees a sample of her other specialty in“reiki.“ Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administer by “laying of the hands” and spiritually guided life force of energy. The word reiki is made of two Japanese works – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy.” Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. “I’ve never done this type of treatment before but I felt that a weight of my stress and worries were lifted off me. Somewhat like a spiritual cleanse,” said a spa attendee.

Other than the mini spa treatments, makeup touch ups and air brush tattoos were also part of the happy hour event. Ali Mendivil, support staffer was in charge of beautifully airbrushing various tattoos from flowers, hearts, stars, and for the few men in attendance, she had dragons, skulls, bulls, etc.

Alongside CakedLA, other special guests included Geschenk Gourmet Cookies, The W.I.G. Foundation who brought award-winning wines for guests to sample and Mercedes Benz of Long Beach who donated a Mercedes Benz Watch for one lucky attendee to win during the raffle. The spa had over 60 attendees and was a great success. The next event is scheduled for July 18. For more information about Studio Cie Wellness Spa , visit: www.studiociewellnessspa.com
